Quick Guide to Installing Tiles.
To obtain the best results with the least effort we recommend you observe the guidelines
The underfloor does not need to be perfect but should be swept clean and be reasonably
smooth and level for the tile to sit on.
Any deep or wide cracks or any high points in the underfloor need levelling before fitting the tiles.
PVC tiles expand and contract in line with the surrounding temperature and we advise leaving
the tiles where they are to be installed for 24 hours before laying. This will minimise tile tension
during the installation.
If the floor is to have a ramped edge fitted to a large doorway we advise fitting the
All you will need to lay the tiles in most cases are:
a white non-marking rubber mallet, which we can supply
a hand saw or stanley knife or a power jigsaw for cutting
1. Lay the
whole tiles first, then lay the cut ones.
2. Tile interlocks should be lightly hammered
together using a non-marking mallet.
3. Leave a 5-mm joint around columns, racks
and walls. This joint can be grouted using flexible cement or covered with skirting.
Tiles can be loose laid on level surfaces where the following applies:
Four-wheel fork-lift stackers with rubber tyres not loaded more than 1,500 kg.
Three-wheel fork-lift stackers with rubber tyres and a double rear wheel not loaded more than 1,000
Pallet-trucks with a total weight, including load, not exceeding 1,500 kg.
The floor tiles only need to be bonded with adhesive in the following circumstances:
where the floor is exposed to significant temperature fluctuations (including strong
where vehicles (eg fork-lifts) turn
where the floor will be exposed to humidity and water for a long time.
Cleaning and Maintenance:
Regular light cleaning once a week is better than a heavy clean once a month.
Cleaning should be done using a cleaning device with a PVC rotary brush or mop and a normal,
non-abrasive, floor cleaning detergent (neutral ph) at a weak concentration.
Use a damp mop rather than soaking the floor with a lot of water
Tile Dimension Notes:
We quote tile requirements based on an inside edge to outside edge measurement.
We have found that this improves estimating accuracy. Other dimensions, which take account of 1) all
tabs and 2) no tabs, are also shown below.
